On December 22, 2021, the Institute of Humanities together with the International Office of Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University held a round-table seminar "DH-tools in Modern Humanities Education: EU Experience and Methodology of Master Programme Development" within the framework of the international Erasmus+ KA2 ARTEST project.
The working group presented to the round table members the experience of the European colleagues united under the ARTEST project "Enhancing Education Programmes in Arts and Humanities using STEM methods and technologies" on implementation of educational practices in the field of Digital Humanities. During the discussion, a conceptual model for a Master's programme was discussed, taking into account the frontier methods and tools used in arts and STEM education programmes.
In 2022 the Institute for the Humanities is launching a new educational project - a hybrid Master's programme "Digital Culture: Language and Communication Technologies" (45.04.01 Philology) and "Digital Culture" (46.04.01 History). A number of proposals for the design of a new-generation master's programme in digital humanities were put forward at the seminar, with a separate subject of discussion being the transdisciplinary IT module. As pointed out by the participants, in order to effectively build the educational route and prepare students to solve professional problems, it is important at the start of the project to identify research and project topics, which will profile each group. With the introduction of the new educational programme, it is planned to approve a wide range of elective courses (including those for related Master's programmes) and consider in detail the possibility of organising project-based elective workshops in museums, galleries, libraries, archives, etc. An equally important innovation in the launched programme will be the academic exchange of expertise between Russia and the European Union - in 2022, as part of the ARTEST project, a virtual platform Digital Lab will be created and launched to develop small international projects aimed at the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the project member states, which will become a kind of online workshop for students. This consolidation will lead to the creation of comfortable conditions for professional and personal development of young professionals on the basis of building a digital integrated educational environment of a fundamentally new type.
